Legal Decisions

Griswold v. Connecticut (1965). The pivotal case in which the Supreme Court said that the Bill of Rights established a more general "right to privacy." This ruling was heavily influenced by a Harvard Law Review article, published some 60 years earlier. The article, by Louis Brandies (later a US Supreme Court justice) can be found here.
Roe v. Wade (1973) The case in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the right to abortion was covered by a constitutionally implied "right to privacy." This decision was influenced not only by the Brandies article, but also a famous dissent by Oliver Wendell Holmes in Lochner v. New York.
Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992). Case challenging a Pennsylvania statute requiring a waiting period for all abortions, and parental consent for a minor child to have an abortion.
